Color Through My Window

A spring picture with no color?
.
It rained for a few days this week. After two solid weeks of warm temperatures and blue skies, it was difficult to adjust to the cold temperatures returning, grey skies, and rain. I felt my mood slipping as the days passed. No nature walks either.

When I stepped outside to fill the neglected bird feeders, I saw this enormous worm in my driveway. I rescued it from going into my garage and under my car.
.
Everything was wet and dripping

And once the seed was out, the birds didn't wait for me to leave before diving into the feeders for seed.
.

What a difference to see the bright, spring colors, compared to the first picture I posted!
.
I can't imagine spring without color
.
The leaves are unfurling now, some completely open.
.

This little Tufted Titmouse was soaked from the rain. He sat preening his feathers for awhile.
.

Now and then, he drank water from the blossoms
.
.
The weeping cherry tree is full of blossoms now, some are dropping to the ground after the rain we've had

I watched a baby finch squawking to be fed. This was taken through a closed window. The noise you hear is the rushing whitewater in my brook, and if you listen carefully, you might hear the persistent baby bird's peeps that I could hear through the glass and over the roar of the brook
.
After the feedings, the attentive parent kept watch over the baby
.
Looking up
.
Looking down
.
Looking to his left
.
And then to his right. Even though I couldn't get out to walk, it was fun to watch them through the window.
.
Once again, my mother will be here for a few days, so I'm not sure how regular my blogging will be.
.
Where I can't keep up, I will catch up.

Thanks for visiting and have a great day!

A Day Last Week 2

If you missed it, Part One is here:
.
.
I continued walking for awhile, enjoying the new green surroundings. It's funny how a little color in the landscape can improve a mood

The trees were alive with birds. Baby birds buzzing endlessly, "Feed me! Feed me!" and tired parents doing just that.

The afternoon sunlight was lighting up the skunk cabbage along the trail

And robins celebrated spring in the treetops with their beautiful songs

I came upon this female mallard bathing

Dipping and diving, coming up covered with water

Splishing and splashing

Eventually, the male showed up. She settled in for a nap in the sunshine, and he stood watch over her

Handsome fella, isn't he?
.
It was time for me to go home.

A Day Last Week 1

All last week, I enjoyed seeing sunrise after sunrise through the Weeping Cherry tree. It's the one time of year that I don't mind an obscured view of the sun.
.
I went for walk in the late afternoon, and while walking, I saw this Field Sparrow.
.

The leaves along the trail glowed in the afternoon light,
.
And the warm afternoon sunlight turned the marsh grasses to a beautiful reddish gold.
.

Nestled into the grasses on the pond, a beaver sat on her lodge, resting in the sunlight.
. I heard the incessant honking of Canada Geese getting closer, as they flew overhead.
.

As they flew past me, I just kept clicking my camera.
.

Eventually, they landed in the water with a splash, too far to take any decent pictures of the actual splashdown.
.

Red-Winged Blackbirds made their presence known, calling out to one another.
.

A beautiful afternoon, and I continued along the trail.
.
Continues here

Around The House & Garden

When I look out my window, the Weeping Cherry is now in full bloom, every branch laden with flowers
.
The baby Woodchuck sits under the feeder munching on the seeds that have dropped to the ground. The birds, squirrels, and chipmunks all eat alongside him without a problem.
.
A baby grey squirrel peeks out shyly, sizing up the face in the window. Soon, he will get to know me.
.
A Blue Jay perches on a nearby branch
.
And another is down in the grass
.

The afternoons are peaceful here, and when I look down into the valley where my brook flows, everything is green, and the leaves glow in the afternoon sunshine.
.
Yes, it's peaceful, except for the cries of Blue Jays. I have at least five of them this year and it can get pretty noisy at times.
.
Occasionally, I'll see Titmice outside my window. Finches still come to the feeder, too, but my other birds are going to the distant feeders now and I want them closer, so I plan to move the feeders around and get some new seed.
.
video
.

But, mostly it's the Jays that I see
.
When I took my mother home yesterday, I walked around the garden where she lives and snapped a few pictures.
.
Her tree is about ready to burst into bloom. It looks like some kind of ornamental fruit tree.
.

I'm still a little worn out, so I'm just taking it easy for now. When I get my "walking shoes" on again and sort through some pictures, I'll get back to posting another walk.
.
Have a great day!
