Silver Sands Trail 1

American Robin
These pictures were taken a few weeks ago when I was at the beach (It was this day: A Little Whimsy)
.
Red-Winged Blackbird in flight over the marshes
.
Looking down one of the canals.
.
Very close to me, a Red-Winged Blackbird was perched on a post
.
This was a fantastic sighting for me. The first Black Crowned Night Heron I've ever seen in Connecticut
.
A little sparrow in the bushes
.
The landscape there is pretty. You can walk through fields, alongside the marshes, and see the salt water views of Long Island Sound beyond, and hear the waves as they come in on the beach
.
While not an exciting picture, it's tricky to get a picture of an elusive Marsh Wren. One can always hear them deep and low in the grasses and recognize them by their unique "chittering" sounds, but seeing them is a feat.
.
Song Sparrow. These birds will pose and put on quite a performance.
.
This is a path I walked, flanked on both sides by colorful flowers. I could see little birds hopping in the grasses, but was unable to see what kind of birds they were
.
Many of the flowers were Birdfoot Trefoil
.
And they made quite a golden impression
.
Mixed with Crown Vetch, it made a great ground cover, which I suppose works very well in helping with erosion
.
Black-Eyed Susan
.
To be continued

Thanks for all of your comments. I've read them all and enjoyed them. I'm still trying to balance my time here, so taking each day at a time. Blogging will remain off-and-on for awhile. Have a great day everyone.

This was lovely...there are so many places I'd like to see, and this is becoming one of them. Take it easy; surely things will settle down a bit for you soon.

Wow. Everything is definitely taking on that late-summer feel. Whenever I think about this time of year, I always return to the smell of cut hay and the sound of a red-winged blackbird. I could sense both, just by looking at your blog!

Lovely as always. That heron is pretty neat! I've never seen one of those, so glad you got such a nice picture. The flowers look so lush and pretty all over that field.

Another great walk Lin. That Night Heron is beautiful, and certainly different than we have here. . I've never seen one. We have Trefoil everywhere around here, and it looks like a golden carpet.

These are wonderful. I've never seen a night heron, I've only heard them. I enjoyed walking a bit with you today. Enjoy you on-and-off time. Replenish your sources.

You always have such wonderful things to share with us. I have been a bit overwhelmed with life in general lately and have taken a short break from visiting the blogs that I like. I just went through your zoo series and wow. I really need to take my boys to the zoo maybe next year when my youngest will enjoy it a bit more than he would now. I always enjoy stopping by your blog and I understand the need for a break no matter what the reason, we all need time to regroup ourselves and sometimes just relax. Look forward to the next post when you have it ready for us. Take your time your loyal readers understand.

A beautiful, sunny walk - just what I needed while winter reigns here in New zealand. We have had severe flooding and horrendous damge. But your photos restore the hope of the coming summer.

Glad to see you do a walk again...Congrats on the BC Night Heron! I love those guys-especially their plumes if you can get the right angle, and you did!

It's always so lovely to see what you're up to. I feel like it's a walk in the wood I miss so much.

Great shot of the marsh wren! There are dozens of them at the nature preserve near my house & in 2 years I've been unable to get a single, quality picture of one--they're so flightly & the cover's so substantial out there!

I've never seen a heron like that either. What a great photo to remember it by.

Your life will soon settle down.

More great shots. I really like that heron and what I'll call its feather pony tail hanging slightly curled on one side. :-)

Nice shot of the Black-crowned Night Heron! That was the bird that convinced me to get a camera.I saw a BCNH perched in a tree near my house about 50 yards from the banks of the CT River.-I was so confused by what I saw that I took notes and tried to take a photo with a regular camera.-I was so discouraged by the measly little photo that came out. So I bought a digizoom camera.-Anyway-Great bird!I was so excited too the first time I saw one.
