Lazy Day - Backyard Stuff

It has been a noisy week in my backyard, with a flurry of birds, but not many of the more favored song birds. From dawn until dark, the air is filled with the sounds of blue jays screaming, the raucous cries of crows, and the loud, incessant buzzes of young grackles and starlings wanting to be fed - squabbling over who gets the goodies first. I look forward to the day when the youngsters are independent and leave, so that the smaller birds will come back. I actually did see a couple of chickadees and a titmouse this week, but they left and haven't been back. It was the first time in a couple of months that I had seen any of my ordinary birds. Even the house sparrows have left now. I'm thinking of letting the feeders remain empty for a couple of weeks to see if the big birds will leave.

Well, for being "lazy" you sure posted a lot of photos and good ones at that. I know how loud the birds can get. Every morning by 4AM I have a robin that starts singing outside of my bedroom window. That's a tad earlier than my alarm clock.

Hi Sandpipter:) These pictures ARE exciting, I needed an escape and got it:) I love the squirrel, lying there comfortably! And wonder why those doves mourn? Or is that their name?

love
Andrea

This a.m. I heard a very similar story about 5 a.m. and was given instructions to haul out my old shotgun and fire a few warning shots. Naturally, being a pacifist at heart, I refused and urged counseling instead. :c)

You can give me that "lazy" stuff anytime! Good shots - my Fav is the young Bluejay! Thank you for sharing and Cheers, Klaus

Those are beautiful lilies! And a nice sample of birds even if not the ones you desire :-) I've had the same problem here, but it is that "brat pack" of young house sparrows and the bluejays that are chasing away the little birds. I guess we must be patient. Love the squirrel!

You did rather well for being "lazy" Great post. I've noticed my smaller birds gone too except Sparrows. They finally have returned with ALL of the kids. The Grackles gang has thinned out too, but some are still around and have discovered my suet.

These are not exciting? I love them! And the story. I'm having a bird feeder problem myself.

The squirrel is priceless!

Ooooooo, I absolutely HATE the time of year when the young magpies are out of the nest, but still begging to be fed!! Mostly because they do their begging in the trees right outside our bedroom window and as soon as dawn arrives ~ which is, of course, as early as 5 am this time of year!!!! Dang birds.

Beautiful colours in this walk Lin!! I don't think it is you being lazy, I think it is the squirrel. LOL!!

I love spending time on your blog. Beautiful photo's and a wonderful job by someone who is 'lazy'.

Remarkable work and very enjoyable.

That squirrel is sure in keeping with your lazy day motif!

I've cut back on the amount of seed I am putting out too Lin. I figure in the summer, they need to be relying on natural food sources more. So, fewer birds, but a sense that I am doing the right thing.

That was lovely! I know what you mean about the big birds, sometimes you wish they'd just find somewhere else for a while!!

That orange lilly we would call a Tiger Lilly I think :)

I think backyard stuff is exciting too. All creatures and flowers are wonderful and to have them in the back yard makes them that much more special!

Gosh - what you consider not exciting - is certainly thrilling in my book! Great set of photos today - especially your lazy squirrel.

Thanks everyone. I think I lost my ambition to get out and walk after being sick, so I've been taking pictures through my window instead. That's lazy! LOL

Andrea, I think they are called Mourning Doves because of the soulful sound they make... a sort of cooing.

All beautiful - but I LOVE that crazy, lazy squirrel!

I thought the same thing as John - if that's lazy - give us more! You made that starling look great! My least favorite bird ;-) They come in droves and ruin my life every now and then.

Lin: You have some great bird captures at your home. This was so interesting after all those great walks.
I had a try at some Mourning Doves in a tree that came out fair but you captured them wonderfully.

All great photos in this series. I know what you mean about the bigger birds and waiting for the small ones to come back...

Wonderful photos from your backyard. The bigger, pushier birds can get to be a nuisance at times.
