The next walk I took led me along a trail that I have only taken a couple of times. As I was focused on an area of trees, where twisted vines were hanging from limbs and draped around tree trunks, I heard some noise in the distance... People. Then right next to me, I heard the heavy "fwump, fwump" of an owl's wings as it took off and I watched it disappear into the distant trees. Seconds later, six bicyclists rode by on the trail. Had I been more observant, I might have had a picture of a large owl instead of this tree trunk with a vine. LOL.
A bit further along, I saw some Black-Throated Green Warblers high in the trees. I was excited - A life bird for me. There have been many "firsts" this spring! I wasn't able to get a close shot because I was shooting straight up into the tippity-top of this tall tree..
As I walked along, I saw this delicate plant. I liked the "green on green" effect..
I emerged from the forest to an area where ponds flanked the trail. On one side, it was marshy - the other side, a bit more open water.
A few lily pads were floating, but no flowers yet.
Violets grew along the edge of the water near the large leafy skunk cabbage.
A small green damselfly was camouflaged against a piece of grass.
There were a couple of very small nests in branches that were right along the path at eye level, but water in between the path and the nests prevented me from peeking into them.
I looked down into the water and it was teeming with tadpoles.
A white feathery spot on the water was probably dropped by the one of the many warblers I saw there. I wasn't able to get pictures of the birds. They hid well in the grasses, and I only saw them fleetingly..
I continued walking along..

What a pretty early morning walk.
I've tried to get pictures of the warblers around here, but they are so fast. Hope you are having a good day, and that Mr. Sandpiper is recovering nicely too. It's 33ยบ here and foggy. We just can't seem to get into that warm weather mode to stay yet.
They are all lovely - I particularly loved the "green on green."
I'm jealous. I have never seen a BTG warbler! Can you send one over? :)
Fantastic series on this walk. Too bad about the owl, but you have the story to tell. I really loved these photos!
The trunk is pretty cool though! I enjoy seeing what you found on your walks! Cheers, Klaus
Lin: Very nice walk, the warbler is a great capture. what a beautiful male you caught there. It's so wonderful to get a new bird added to your photos.
Another interesting series as usual.
How wonderful. I think the "green on green" especially lovely. Thanks for sharing.
what a beautiful morning.. thanks lin
Oh what a bummer that you missed that owl! At least you didn't let it ruin your day ;-) Your BTG warbler was the cool catch of the walk - you were rewarded for your patience! Green on green is lovely!
You always have so much variety, texture, and light in your photos! Very beautiful pictures! Good tadpole close-ups! The green on green and again with the damselfly were very pretty.
It is always exciting to add a new "life" bird! I added the Tree Swallow and Northern Shoveller to my list this Spring. I was also glad to see the Blue-gray Gnatcatcher again after a 16 year absence. :)
Lily pads and the plant on the "green on green" are my favourite on this walk!
All are excellent pictures. You have some stunning scenery over there.
Your capturing of up close detail is beautiful and something I should be more attentive too. I love the twisted vine around the tree trunk; it makes it kinda mysterious and spooky. And you have tadpoles and I can't even find any frog's eggs yet; I shall have to check the pond later on today to see if I can find any.
Talk about green on green, on down I could hardly see the dragonfly on the 'green'. Had to concentrate on it. Great capture and congrats on your new bird! That's always thrilling!
Love those pond photos!!
These pictures are so beautiful and extraordinary - you must live in a wonderful area... And of course, you keep eyes and mind very open!
Ferns heads are one of nature's most beautiful creations. And your photo does them wonderful justice. Lovely.
That delicate, green plant almost looks unreal, like some kind of fantasy painting or some such. Very lovely!
Your photo of the pond with the lily pads reminded me of a monet painting. Beautiful.
Thanks for taking us down the Trail Rarely Taken. Another very interesting place to be with your camera. Your green on green works well. -Mike
What a lovely walk on a rarely taken trail! Loved your Warbler capture...they just seem to elude me! haha
Hello! I really do enjoy these walks. Your pictures are always beautiful. I wonder if that is a humming bird nest. Can't wait for our next walk. Lisa
Oh yes, love the green on green photo, so delicate!
I love this blog! Your photos dazzle. I saw a huge red headed woodpecker not long ago, at our lake place.I had no idea they got so big!
Great photos! Nice find on the BTGW too - that'd be a life bird for me as well. And I think your photo of it is fine - warblers aren't often the most cooperative birds to photograph!
